Besides describing various types of bodywork and yoga, I wanted to imbed into this site a number of occult and metaphysical symbols. It seems that these days there are very few real instances of the occult openly exposed. At a certain point, one might think that all of this stuff is just for great kids books and movies with special effects.

The base style of my website contains borders and glyphs from the Bembine Tablet of Isis. No known historical record exists of it before 1527. It is said that Plato was initiated into the Great Mysteries at the age of 49 in one of the subterranean halls of the Great Pyramid. This tablet formed part of the altar that he stood before during the initiation.

The tablet is made of bronze and decorated with encaustic or smalt enamel and silver inlay. The figures are cut very shallow and threads of silver encircle the contour of most of them.

I could describe the details of this tablet at length and I will probably add more to this description as time goes on. The tablet demonstrates that all is in God and God is in all; that all is in all and each is in each. There are in the intellectual world invisible spiritual counterparts of the creatures that inhabit the elemental world. The lowest exhibits the highest, the corporeal declares the intellectual, and the invisible is made manifest by its works.

The Bembine Tablet of Isis

Stele of Revealing

The Stele of Revealing is the wooden funeral stele of Ankh-af-na-khonsu, a notable political and religious figure of several royal administations around the 23rd or 24th dynasty in Thebai. During his life he facilitated what is known as the Equinox of the Gods, the transition of roles of the gods and the model of prayer. For gods neither die nor are reborn, but one initiates while another guards, and one heralds and while another sanctifies.

Aeon of Isis

Based on this model we know of three models of worship for three Gods, Isis, Osiris, and Horus, the mother, the father/brother, and the child, respectively. The age of Isis dates back to 10,000 BC when it was unclear that sex was responsible for women getting pregnant. As such, women were worshipped for their mysterious life giving ability. A mystery school formed around this worship for the Goddess Isis.

Ankh-af-na-khonsu was involved in the changing of occult practices for mystery schools from the Goddess Isis, the Veiled One to Osiris, the Dying God. Ankh-af-na-khonsu as a man was made to study the magical arts that only women were allowed to know as a servant of the Veiled One. He served as such until he began to embody the characteristics of Osiris, the god of Life in Death, concealed. In his embodiment of both Gods, he destroyed the practices and worship of Isis and established secret schools of magick for Osiris.

Aeon of Osiris

The next age, Aeon of Osiris was based on the formula of the Dying God. The understanding that men had a part to play in procreation shifted the power between the sexes. Men started becoming possessive. When a child was born, it was now their child and as such they should own the woman as well. This influence along with the growing agricultural knowledge of the seasons shifted religious focus to the Sun. We became overly concerned that the Sun would disappear in evening and reappear in the morning. We believed that the Sun died every night and possibly a new one was born each morning. Mystery schools formed around this formula of death, birth, and resurrection. The Aeon of Osiris ended, mystically speaking, in 1904.

Aeon of Horus

Ankh-af-na-khonsu in a later incarnation, Aleister Crowley, in 1904 ushered in the Aeon of Horus, the Crown and Conquering Child. Now we understand that the Earth revolves around the Sun and that the Sun does not die. Our model is that of continuous growth.

The Stele of Revealing (front)

The following is a paraphrase of inscription on the front of the Stele of Revealing.

Above, the gemmed azure is
    The naked splendour of Nuit;
She bends in ecstasy to kiss
    The secret ardours of Hadit.
The winged globe, the starry blue
Are mine, o Ankh-f-n-Khonsu.

I am the Lord of Thebes, and I
   The inspired forth-speaker of Mentu;
For me unveils the veiled sky,
   The self-slain Ankh-f-n-Khonsu
Whose words are truth. I invoke, I greet
Thy presence, o Ra-Hoor-Khuit!

Unity uttermost showed!
   I adore the might of Thy breath,
Supreme and terrible God,
   Who makest the gods and death
      To tremble before Thee:---
      I, I adore thee!

Appear on the throne of Ra!
   Open the ways of the Khu!
Lighten the ways of Ka!
   The ways of the Khabs run through
      To stir me or still me!
      Aum! let it fill me!

The Light is mine; its rays consume
   Me: I have made a secret door
Into the House of Ra and Tum,
   Of Khephra, and of Ahathoor.
I am thy Theban, o Mentu,
The prophet Ankh-f-n-Khonsu !

By Bes-na-Maut my breast I beat;
   By wise Ta-Nech I weave my spell.
Show thy star-splendour, O Nuith!
   Bid me within thine House to dwell,
O winged snake of light, Hadith!
Abide with me, Ra-Hoor-Khuit!

The Stele of Revealing (back)

The following is a paraphrase of inscription on the back of the Stele of Revealing.

Saith of Mentu the truth-telling brother
   Whose was master of Thebes from his birth;
O heart of mine, heart of my mother!
   O heart which I had upon earth!
Stand not thou up against me a witness!
   Oppose me not, judge, in my quest!
Accuse me not now of unfitness
   Before the Great God, the dread Lord of the West!
For I fastened the one to the other
   With a spell for their mystical girth,
The earth and the wonderful West,
   When I flourished, o earth, on thy breast!

The dead man Ankh-f-n-Khonsu
   Saith with his voice of truth and calm:
O thou that hast a single arm!
   O thou that glitterest in the moon!
I weave thee in the spinning charm;
   I lure thee with the billowy tune.

The dead man Ankh-f-n-Khonsu
   Hath parted from the darkling crowds,
Hath joined the dwellers of the light,
   Opening Duant, the star-abodes,
   Their keys receiving.
The dead man Ankh-f-n-Khonsu
   Hath made his passage into night,
His pleasure on the earth to do
   Among the living.

The Seal of God; TRUTH

The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (sometimes shortened to the "LBRP") is a fundamental ritual of ceremonial and Thelemic magick. It was originally taught by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.

Crowley writes in his Notes on the Ritual of the Pentagram:
Every man has a natural fortress within himself, the Soul impregnable. ...Besides this central citadel, man also has outerworks, the Aura. ...It is the duty of every person to see that his Aura is in good condition. There are two main methods for doing this. The first is by a performance two or three times daily of the Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. Its main point is to establish in the Astral four Pentagrams, one in each quarter, and two Hexagrams, one above, the other below, thus enclosing the Magician, as it were, in a consecrated box. It also places in his Aura the Divine Names invoked.

I recommend doing the ritual at least twice a day until the geometry and angels take on a permanent presence in your astral field. But if you consider doing this only once a day, do it before going to bed. Emotional, psychological, and psychic debris are most potent when we sleep. Non-embodied presences and influences are strongest at night as well. The proof is in the pudding as they say. So, try it.

The Ritual

From Liber O:
(i) Touching the forehead, say Ateh (Unto Thee).
(ii) Touching the breast, say Malkuth (The Kingdom).
(iii) Touching the right shoulder, say ve-Geburah (and the Power).
(iv) Touching the left shoulder, say ve-Gedulah (and the Glory).
(v) Clasping the hands upon the breast, say le-Olahm, Amen (To the Ages, Amen).

Earth Pentagram (vi) Turning to the East, make a pentagram (that of Earth) with the proper weapon (usually the Wand but you can use a finger). Say (i.e. vibrate) I H V H.
(vii) Turning to the South, the same, but say A D N I.
(viii) Turning to the West, the same, but say A H I H.
(ix) Turning to the North, the same, but say A G L A.
(Pronounce: Yeh-ho-vah, Ad-oh-nye, Eh-hee-eh, Ahg-lah).

(x) Extending the arms in the form of a Cross, say:
(xi) Before me Raphael;
(xii) Behind me Gabriel;
(xiii) On my right hand Michael.
(xiv) On my left hand Auriel;
(xv) For about me flames the Pentagram,
(xvi) And in the Column stands the six-rayed Star.

(xvii-xxi) Repeat (i) to (v), the "Qabalistic Cross."

Qabalistic Cross

Mark Stavish writes in his Notes on the Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram:
The fundamental purpose of the Qabalistic Cross is to open our ability to access nonphyscial energy via our Crown (Kether) and to bring that down to our material (Malkuth) and conscious (Tiphareth) realms. The powers of imagination (Chesed) and energy (Geburah) are also called into play, as they then effect the unspoken sepheroth of our unconscious (Yesod). Together, all of the major central pillar spheres are activated directly, or as in the case of Yesod, indirectly.

When doing the Qabalistic Cross, it is important that the opening phase, that of imagining the energy of our Crown descending to our head not be rushed over. The imagery is that of a brilliant sphere of light that we touch with the first two fingers of our right hand (a traditional sign of blessing) and imagine a shaft of light being pulled down from it to our forehead. At this point we should pause for a moment and imagine our third eye flashing with light as we intone the Divine Name Ateh - Thou Art. Some might find it easier to imagine the light going into the top of their head, filling it, and flashing outward for a brief second through their third eye. In either case, the purpose is to align us with our Highest Self via the spiritual organs of the head - the pineal and pituitary glands.

Pentagrams

Each line from point to point in the pentagram represents one of the elements, spirit, fire, water, air, or earth. Creating a pentagram from a specific segment denotes banishing or invoking the corresponding element depending on which direction the segment is drawn. What I have described here is banishing the influence of the earth element. Visualize the earth pentagrams in the color rusty red.

Note the language for about me flames the pentagram. See the pentagrams aflame in your mind's eye.

Angels

The angels can be visualized in the following way.

Raphael as a billowing breeze, or piece of yellow fabric, with violet highlights, blowing in the wind.

Michael as a blazing column of fire, with highlights of emerald green and a shining sword at its base, with a red handle.

Gabriel as a column of light blue mist and flashing orange highlights dominating. A cup or chalice of deep blue crystal is seen at its base.

Auriel as a vast funnel cloud inverted (large at the bottom, narrow at the top), like a dust storm, moving and powerful. A sheaf of golden wheat is in the foreground.
